The final phases of Civita Park are well under construction and scheduled for completion in early 2020. The section under construction includes two playgrounds, one for youngsters aged 2-5 and the other one for children aged 5-12. In addition to traditional play equipment, the playgrounds will include discovery opportunities, such as rock-climbing walls, rope bridges, swings and spinners.
Near the playgrounds there will be shaded picnic areas and restrooms.
The new addition to the park continues to celebrate the topography of Mission Valley and the site’s past as a sand and gravel quarry. A “Mining Relic Plaza” will feature a Caterpillar D8 bulldozer, large augers and other historic mining equipment.
Three interpretative gardens (succulent garden, winged garden and scent garden), a bocce court, and an event area for weddings and birthdays are also taking shape.
The park’s completion will be celebrated during the annual Arbor Day festivities, Friday, April 24.
