First Condos Completed at Sudberry’s Super-Green Civita Community
SAN DIEGO, CA – Culminating nearly 10 years of entitlement work and environmental clean up efforts, Sudberry has announced the completion of the first condo development in its Civita master planned community. Shea Homes is the developer.
Master-developed by Sudberry on the 270-acre site of a former gravel pit, Civita has already won wide attention for its commitment to sustainable building practices.
Soon to follow Origen is a second housing development, Circa 37, which is being developed by Sudberry.
At build out, Civita will contain 4,780 housing units, primarily multifamily. The housing will also include some affordable units and two senior communities. Most of the housing will consist either of lofts or courtyard units, according to Marco Sesso, senior vice president at Sudberry.
The Developer plans another one million square feet of commercial development to support the housing, according to Sesso. The original owner, a family that formerly operated the gravel pit, is a partner in the project.
A central location in San Diego County is a major selling point. “We’re smack dab in the middle of everything, and we’ve got transit connections, too,” says Sesso, referring to the San Diego Trolley line that connects Civita to downtown. The transit station is “less than a five minutes’ walk” from most places in the development, he adds.
Among other honors, the Civita development has been cited by the California Department of Housing and Community Development as a “Catalyst Community.” The designation reflects that Civita offers “both economic benefit and strong environmental benefit,” according to Sesso.
