Arbor Day Fest Blends Traditional Tree Planting with a BBQ Bash

DSC_5081Civita’s 6th Annual Arbor Day celebration kicked off with the planting of a 23-foot-high Coast Live Oak at the main entry to the future Civita Park. Subsequently, residents gathered in the temporary park for a barbecue spread catered by Bar None BBQ and entertainment by The Bedbreakers, one of San Diego’s hardest rockin’ roots-and-blues bands. Families also had the opportunity to “Smile for the Birdie” at Joe Stupor’s exotic bird booth and find out about San Diego River Days from the San Diego River Park Foundation. The artistically inclined created glass tiles that will be incorporated in a mixed-media mosaic at the community garden in Civita Park. Next year’s Arbor Day celebration is scheduled to take place in the new Civita Park.
