The Civita team is anxiously waiting the BIA Icon Awards on Saturday, September 20, at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla. It’s going to be a great night…and a winning night for Civita, since in two categories – Best Interior Design and Best Architectural Design (both for Multifamily Residences) – all of the finalists are from Civita!
MISSION VALLEY – The Morgan Leigh Band and the Tolan Shaw Band will perform a free concert in Civita’s temporary park, on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to picnic on the grass and enjoy these two local up-and-coming singer/songwriters. The park is located at the intersection of Civita Boulevard and Via Alta in San Diego’s Mission Valley.
Morgan Leigh is a California Country performer who made it to the semifinals during the 12th season of American Idol. Her first full-length album Trouble was released this summer and financed by a Kickstarter campaign.
The country/pop Morgan Leigh Band has opened for such legendary performers as Pat Benatar and the Canadian rock band Loverboy. Last year the band made it to the Top Eight in the American Country Stars competition in Nashville.
The Tolan Shaw Band blends the sounds of ‘60s and ‘70s soul music with new indie/pop. After winning first place as Best Songwriter at the 2011 San Diego County Fair, Shaw took off on a songwriting exodus through Latin America, traveling through 11 countries and 72 cities. Many of his subsequent songs were inspired by that life-changing journey.
His former band, The New Archaic, won Best New Artist at the 2009 San Diego Music Awards and was nominated in 2012 for Best Alternative Album category, for its debut album Movers and Shakers.
Last year Shaw was awarded first place in the San Diego County Fair Singer/Songwriter Contest. This year he released a new single and video, “Be My Girl,” directed by David Brooks and recorded at local Slithering Serpent and Studio West.
“We welcome fans, visitors and residents to enjoy these great local bands and bring your beach chairs, blankets and picnic blankets,” said Anne Law, director of marketing for Sudberry Properties, developer of the Civita master-planned community located on a former quarry site in Mission Valley.
